Dr Blaire Brewerton
Geriatrician & Addiction Medicine Specialist
Dr Blaire Brewerton (he/him) is a South Australian-trained physician and dual specialist in Geriatric Medicine and Addiction Medicine. Born and raised in South Australia, he completed his medical degree at Flinders University before undertaking physician training and advanced specialist training in both Geriatric Medicine and Addiction Medicine across Adelaide.
Dr Brewerton has extensive experience caring for older people across hospital, community, and residential aged care settings. His areas of interest in Geriatric Medicine include cognition and dementia, behavioural and psychological symptoms of dementia (BPSD), multimorbidity, chronic pain, polypharmacy, frailty, falls prevention, incontinence, bone health, advance care planning, and supporting quality of life through person-centred care.
In Addiction Medicine, Dr Brewerton has worked across hospital, consultation-liaison, chronic pain, sexual health, and community settings. He enjoys the interface between substance use disorders/physical health/mental health/social wellbeing. His interests include alcohol-related disorders, liver disease, blood-borne viruses, chronic pain, iatrogenic dependence, performance and image enhancing drugs (PIEDs), mental health, cardiovascular health and chronic disease management, cognitive impairment, Aboriginal health and wellbeing, and LGBTQIA+ health. He is an accredited S100 HIV prescriber and S100 Hepatitis B prescriber.
Dr Brewerton has also provided outreach services to remote Aboriginal communities and is committed to improving access to specialist care for underserved populations.
Through Flourish Medical Specialists, Dr Brewerton provides outpatient consultations, inpatient care at Ramsay Clinic Adelaide, nursing home outreach services to Mannum and Mount Gambier, and is available for residential aged care outreach across metropolitan Adelaide.
Outside of medicine, Dr Brewerton enjoys spending time with family and friends, exploring Adelaide's dining scene, keeping up with fashion, crocheting, and spending time with his husband.
